Pledge to drive Ludhiana towards safety - an initiative by AEGON Religare Life in association with Ludhiana Traffic Police
Ludhiana, October 20, 2015: Statistics have shown that disobedience of traffic rules have directly resulted into fatalities. Ludhiana city had witnessed high level of road accidents of around 342 in the period of January 2015 to September 2015 out of which 187 was the recorded death rate. (Source-Ministry of Accidents).
With an aim to emphasize the importance to adopt essential measures while driving, AEGON Religare Life Insurance, pioneers and innovators in the online insurance, today organized a ‘Safe Drive Awareness’ campaign in association with the traffic police of Ludhiana.
This initiative of AEGON Religare Life Insurance aims at reintroducing and informing the people to adhere to the much required road safety norms. The campaign aims to urge the citizens to follow traffic safety rules with the help of 30 to 40 volunteers placed at the major and busiest hubs of Ludhiana under direct supervision and guidance of the Ludhiana traffic police covering the streets of Bharat Nagar Chowk, Bhai Wala Chowk, Kipps Market, Pakhowal Road railway crossing, Model Town railway crossing and Dugri Chowk.
The volunteers will appeal the car and auto drivers to pledge to drive safely by following simple driving etiquettes and traffic rules more sincerely. They also plan to distribute informative handouts on essential rules by emphasizing the dangers of traffic safety violations and the preventive measures to avoid the same. In order to pass on the message to the other fellow drivers, the volunteers would seek and request the car owners to put a bumper sticker with a traffic safety message ‘I pledge to drive safe’ displayed behind their respective vehicles. This initiative by AEGON Religare Life Insurance will not only help in creating awareness on this issue but also facilitate Ludhiana to flourish leaps and bound by commuting safely.
On this occasion, Mr. Amit Kumar Roy, Chief Distribution Officer from AEGON Religare Life Insurance said “We, at AEGON Religare Life Insurance believe in valuing human lives not only through insurance but ensuring safety habits among the people. Society can progress only in a safe conducive environment. The onus of road safety lies only on citizens. Simple driving etiquettes and rules should be embedded in the minds of the people to ensure their own safety and that of others.”
Ms. Richa Agnihotri, ACP, Ludhiana Traffic Police said “Traffic safety is impossible without the help from the citizens themselves. Public awareness would motivate drivers to commute safely. The traffic runs smoothly when such initiatives help us enforce traffic laws successfully”
