How to Prepare Your Body for Chemotherapy?

Life can be unpredictable at times and create difficult situations when you least expect it. Cancer is one such unforeseen situation for which mental preparation is best advised. Riya was a super-active working mother until recently. When her medical reports showed that her stomach pain had developed into pancreatic cancer, she and her family both were unprepared. This was not only physically painful but also mentally challenging for Riya. Having said that, Riya had bought a cancer insurance policy in India which lessened financial stress on her and her family. This gave her a window for relief and in due time she positively responded to the therapy.

While cancer insurance policy acts as a financial saviour, here is how you can prepare your mind for chemotherapy and a speedy recovery.

  • Stay relaxed

It is quite natural to feel disoriented when your doctor recommends chemotherapy for you. You are already aware that it is a painful process and involves lots of physical changes in you. Hence, it is normal to feel stressed about it. However, if you want to recover from the illness and come out successful, it is imperative to be stress-free.

We understand that it is easier said than done, but you must make a conscious effort to relax your mind and body. Going for walking, breathing exercises, participating in cancer forums to hear success stories of fellow cancer patients and having a positive mind frame are some ways in which you can take it easy and allow your body to relax well.

Yes, chemotherapy treatments are very costly and can add on to your stress. Therefore a good critical illness plan is of paramount importance. When you know that your cancer treatment expenses are taken care of by your insurance plan, you have one less thing to worry about.

  • Have a proper diet and sleep

Your body needs lots of nutrients before it gets exposed to radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Foods that are not only healthy but also rich in calories should be your priority diet. Consume plenty of fruits, vegetables, dairy products and high-protein nutrients. Chemotherapy hurts your appetite; therefore, it is imperative to eat well before you start the treatment. This way, your body will have enough nutrients to respond well to the treatment. Also, get enough sound sleep daily before your treatment begins. Further, spend time talking to your closed ones and revisit good times spent together to channelize positivity in you.

  • Stay positive and be strong

You only need to know how you should prepare yourself to take up the treatment with a positive mindset and strong willpower.  Never make the mistake of thinking of the physical changes that your body will undergo after the treatment. Yes, you may lose a bit of weight and your hair, but you can always come back to your original self after your recovery. Talking to a counsellor can be of great help when you want to build perspective and regain positiveness. A counsellor will give you the much-needed positivity that you need to cope with the cancer treatment process. In a nutshell, it is recommended you enrol in a good cancer care plan one and maintain a healthy lifestyle so that you can meet the expenses and the procedure of the chemotherapy treatment with confidence.
