As of now, the Supreme Court has indefinitely postponed the linking dates until it hears cases contesting the linkages. What is an Aadhar card?

Aadhar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued to Indian citizens. An Aadhar card holds a record of your fingerprints, biometrics, address proof, phone number and date of birth. Aadhar is often mispelled as adhar.

How to update your Aadhar Card?

You can update your Aadhar:

  1. Update Aadhar Card online, on https://uidai.gov.in/enrolment-update/aadhaar-enrolment/aadhaar-data-update.html
  2. Update Aadhar Card via post or by visiting the Aadhar enrolment center

If you have registered with a valid mobile number, you can update Aadhar online. You will receive a one-time password (OTP), which will authenticate your transaction. Here you can update your demographics like name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile & email address.

  2. Log in using your Aadhaar number

  1. Download the form online
  2. Tick the field/s that need/s to be updated. Use the language that shows up in your Aadhaar letter
  3. Make sure you provide your mobile number (mandatory) for the changes
  4. Send the application form, along with self-attested supporting documents, to UIDAI’s address. Any of the two addresses can be used.

How to update aadhar card details at the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre:

At an Aadhar Permanent Enrolment Centre, you can update your demographic and biometric information. Demographics include name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile & email) while biometrics include fingerprints, iris and photograph.

Is there a fee? How long does it take?

Online and post are free of cost, however, you will be charged Rs. 25 to update the details at an enrolment centre. The process takes around 90 days. After approval, you can download your e-Aadhaar card.

If you are updating your name, address, date of birth and gender, you will receive

an Aadhaar letter containing updates at your registered address.

If you update your mobile number or email address, you will receive a notification on your mobile number or email ID.
